The AAVN was the very first of the "allied" organizations of the AVMA. It was founded in 1956 by Dr. Morris Erdheim, a veterinarian working for industry, who
recogonized the need for a forum for collegial discussion among industrial
nutritionists, academic nutritionists, and veterinarians. A few years ago
Dr. Erdheim donated the archival records of the AAVN (originally named the
American Association of Veterinary Nutritionists) to the Flower/Sprecher
Library of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell where they are
available for anyone to peruse. Additional information can be found in an article by Bauer,J.E. and Kallfelz,F.A. in the Compendium of Continuing Education published in January 2000, p12-14.
